Old-Fashioned Braised Steak and Caramelized Onions

Old-Fashioned Braised Steak and Caramelized Onions is a comforting, classic dish that brings warmth and hearty flavors to your table. This recipe features tender steak slow-cooked to perfection, melding with sweet, caramelized onions in a rich, savory sauce. The slow braising process ensures that the steak becomes incredibly tender, absorbing all the flavors from the onions and the aromatic herbs. Perfect for a cozy dinner, this dish embodies traditional home cooking at its finest, offering a satisfying and nostalgic experience with every bite.

Ingredients:
1.5 pounds beef steak (such as chuck or round), cut into large pieces
2 large onions, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
Season the beef steak pieces with salt and pepper on both sides.
Heat olive oil and butter in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat.
Add the steak pieces to the pot, searing them until browned on all sides. Remove the steak and set it aside.
In the same pot, add the sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
Add the minced garlic to the onions and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
Return the seared steak to the pot with the onions. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine.
Add the dried thyme and bay leaf to the pot. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low. Let the steak braise for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
Remove the bay leaf and discard. Adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
Serve the braised steak with caramelized onions on top, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes:
This dish pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of balsamic vinegar to the onions as they caramelize.
